Barnie's Coffee hosted a cupping event with coffees from the Cup of Excellence Nicaragua 2024 and coffee expert, Anne Valdez.
Christian Jose-Morrison, our head roaster at Barnie's Coffee & Tea Co. also participated in the event and Shannon Wolfgang, our Marketing Director was lucky enough to photograph and tell you all about it in our Barnie's Coffee blog.

We had special guests from Lobos Coffee Company in Winter Park as one of the judges, and other coffee cuppers from our local coffee community here in Central Florida. Anne Valdez, a coffee expert in Orlando asked if we could host this event at our Production & Distribution Center and we said YES!
We started our 4 hour experience by each telling each other a little about ourselves and what we do and where were from, plus how we got into the coffee industry. One by one we told stories of how coffee was first introduced to us.

After the introductions, we chose what country we wanted to represent as Anne told stories of each and passed out an apron for each of us to wear and explained her memories and what it means to have beans from these various locations.
She also told her stories from the Cup of Excellence Nicaragua and why the winners were chosen the way they were based on the protocols and varietals and more. Ask her anything and she will tell you. She's called a coffee expert for a reason. Her picture is below.
We then moved ahead onto the slurping and tasting the various coffees. These all were from the results and top winners of the Cup of Excellence Nicaragua. See pictures below to represent this experience.
The processing methods for the coffees were all different: washed, natural or processed in honey, but we were very lucky to try from Anne the winners and they were delicious.
